The blue checkmark… or any checkmark. Is it worth the fee?

The blue checkmark… or any checkmark. Is it worth the fee?

For me, the answer is no.

It’s honestly sad and frustrating how expensive it can be to spread awareness, reach people, and capture the world’s attention. Fees and costs can become barriers that prevent so much good work, kindness, and awareness from reaching the people who need it most.

I don’t do this for a blue checkmark. I do it in memory of my mother, Sharon, and for every person and family battling Parkinson’s disease today.

Sadly, we cannot bring Mom back. But we can make sure that others never feel alone in this fight.

Yes, a verification checkmark may provide credibility and visibility, and I completely understand why some people choose to have one. But for me, the cost just doesn’t make sense anymore. I would rather put that money toward awareness, advocacy, research, and helping the Parkinson’s community.

So, I’ll be deleting my blue checkmark.

Maybe it’s a small thing, but I believe our voices should matter because of what we stand for—not because we paid for a symbol next to our name.

What do you think?

Are social media checkmarks worth the cost? Do they actually make a difference in credibility and reaching people, or have they become just another expense?

I’d genuinely love to hear your thoughts. ❤️

For Sharon. For Parkinson’s. For everyone who is still fighting.
