The National Plan to End Parkinson’s Disease is now Law.
On July 2, 2024, President Biden signed the Dr. Emmanuel Bilirakis and Honorable Jennifer Wexton National Plan to End Parkinson’s Act into law. This law calls for an integrated national plan to prevent, diagnose, treat, and cure Parkinson’s, ameliorate symptoms, and slow or stop progression.

2025 the new committee will be known as the Advisory Council on Parkinson’s research, care, and services. National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke
The Federal Advisory Council on Parkinson’s Research, Care, and Services will provide advice on Parkinson’s-related issues, including recommendations to be included in the National Plan to End Parkinson’s. The Advisory Council on Parkinson’s Research, Care, and Services, will include people living with Parkinson’s or neurodegenerative Parkinsonisms, caregivers, health care providers, researchers, representatives from advocacy organizations, and representatives from federal agencies.

HHS Announces Progress on Establishing the National Parkinson’s Project
Today, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra announced he would delegate the authority vested in the HHS under the Dr. Emmanuel Bilirakis and Honorable Jennifer Wexton National Plan to End Parkinson’s Act to the National Institutes of Health, with support from the HHS Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health.
The law requires the agency to develop a national project to prevent, diagnose, treat, and cure Parkinson’s, to be known as the National Parkinson’s Project, including a requirement to establish and maintain an Advisory Council on Parkinson’s Research, Care, and Services. The council will be cochaired by Walter J. Koroshetz, MD, Director of NIH’s National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, and David Goldstein, MS, Associate Deputy Director for the Office of Science and Medicine for HHS’ Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health.
