Around the Town with Sharon’s Son, George
So here’s the idea…
I head out into a busy local community area, grab my cell phone, and ask people a simple question on camera:
“Are you aware of Parkinson’s Disease?”
The goal is simple — raise awareness one conversation at a time. Because if we reach even one person, we may have changed the world for someone living with Parkinson’s.
There was a lot to consider before heading out — the heat, the location, the crowd, and honestly, the fear of approaching strangers. But advocacy means showing up, even when it’s uncomfortable.
So I tried.
For my first time out… it didn’t go as planned.
Most people were too busy, uninterested, or unsure about speaking on camera. Some simply didn’t feel comfortable doing a live interview. But something important happened — many people admitted they really didn’t know much about Parkinson’s Disease.
And in a way, that made the day a success.
Because now they do.
No interviews yet, but awareness still happened. Advocacy still happened.
This journey isn’t easy, but neither was watching my mother Sharon battle Parkinson’s Disease. That’s why I’ll keep trying. Different locations. Different communities. Different conversations.
We will continue until more people understand this disease and until one day there is a cure.
