💙Today we participated in the Community Spirit Race 5K on behalf of TogetherForSharon® — in memory of my mother, Sharon — to raise awareness and hope for a cure for Parkinson’s Disease at Florida Atlantic University in South FL, the college I attended.
I  also ran as an Ambassador for Drive Toward a Cure, and for every inspiring person in this beautiful Parkinson’s community around the world.
After four back surgeries and three ankle surgeries, there were times I wanted to give up. A 5K is not easy for me. I felt the ankle pain and the hardware in my back with every step. But every time I thought about stopping, I thought about all of you and kept fighting.
I thought of my mother Sharon and how she battled. I thought of Esther, Mark, Melissa, Steve, families with loved ones battling like Deb & Margaret, and so many others in this community who have become family to me. You’ve been there for me, and I will never stop fighting for you.
We fight for funding for research. We fight for better care for those battling Parkinson’s today and for their families. And we fight in memory of all those we’ve lost to this disease.
I won’t rest. I’m just getting started.
It’s been 6 years since I lost my best friend and my mother, Sharon. Not a second goes by that I don’t wish she were by my side. But she lives on through all of us.
