2026 RunDisney with Team Fox- the Michael J. Fox Foundation

A year ago, I discovered RunDisney and thought,
Inspired, I made a promise to myself: I would travel to Disney and participate in RunDisney 2026. That decision didn’t come without obstacles. In recent years, I’ve endured four back surgeries and three ankle surgeries—none fully resolved. But I refused to let that stop me.
When I think of my mother, Sharon, I know why. She battled Parkinson’s disease for 18 years with courage and strength. She never gave up—and neither could I.
I was deeply honored when Team Fox made a spot for me.
On January 7, despite being overwhelmed with work, I felt the unwavering support of my family. I drove to Orlando and arrived at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex to pick up my race bib and collectibles. The size of the crowd was intimidating—overwhelming, even—but I pushed through. I was officially ready.
That night, I stayed at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. Sleep never came. Excitement, nerves, and the fear of missing my alarm kept me wide awake. By 2:00 a.m., I was ready. At 3:00 a.m., I boarded the bus to meet Team Fox for a 3:30 a.m. group photo.
And then—the cold.
Born in New York but living in Florida since 1995, I was not prepared. The chill cut through me. I could see my breath with every exhale. Still, as we waited, something beautiful happened. Stories were shared. Loved ones were remembered. Advocacy filled the air. I met people I had never known before but felt connected to instantly. It was life-changing.
Eventually, we split up to head toward our assigned gates. I had Letter G—not for George, but last in the lineup. The wait was long (next time, I’m bringing long johns), but it was worth it. There were interviews, speakers, and incredible costumes—until the power went out. Even then, no one complained. We waited together.
Then it happened. Fireworks lit up the sky. We crossed the start line.
I worried I wouldn’t be able to jog. I worried my body would fail me. But something came over me. Every step brought memories of my mother flooding back—beautiful, powerful memories. Parkinson’s did not take this moment from me.
I ran for those still battling today.
I ran for their families.
I ran for those we’ve lost.
I pushed forward, even stopping briefly due to yet another issue with my left leg—one I’ve stopped asking doctors to fix. That’s a story for another day.
Along the way, I took a few selfies. And then—I finished. I completed the 5K.
I even called my wife, Grether, during the experience so she could feel a part of it. She couldn’t attend because of work and our children, but once again, she sacrificed so I could be there. I will never forget that. This moment would not have happened without her love and support.
Crossing the finish line marked the end of an unforgettable advocacy experience—one that now holds a permanent place in my heart. Disney. Community. Perseverance. Never giving up, no matter the obstacles. We fight on—together.
I hope this gives you a glimpse into the magic of RunDisney. I truly recommend walking, jogging, or running it at least once. It’s a moment you will never forget.
My deepest thanks to the Disney, Team Fox runners, advocates, participants, and the Michael J. Fox Foundation. Without your mission, passion, and support, this day would not have been possible.
We move forward. Always together.
