The “Back to the Future” trilogy, directed by Robert Zemeckis and starring Michael J. Fox, is one of the most beloved and iconic film franchises in history. However, what many fans of the series may not know is that the actor who played Marty McFly, the time traveler who took us on a DeLorean to speeds of up to 88 miles per hour, has been battling a disease that has significantly impacted his life and career: Parkinson’s.
In 1991, Michael J. Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson’s, a degenerative disease that affects the nervous system and can cause tremors, rigidity, and movement problems. Despite this challenge, Fox did not give up and continued acting and working in the entertainment industry. Additionally, he became a passionate activist in the fight against Parkinson’s, founding the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
In Argentina, since 2020, I have been collaborating with Team Fox, Michael J. Fox Foundation. As founder of Volver al Futuro Argentina Team Fox, I created a community on social media that brings together fans of the movie and collaborators of Team Fox in Argentina. Our goal is to raise funds for Parkinson’s research and raise awareness about this disease. To achieve this, we organize various activities, such as raffles, interviews with actors from the film, voice actors, behind-the-scenes personalities, collectors, and more, fairs, and sales of merchandise, screenings of the “Back to the Future” movie, among others.
Additionally, we are ambassadors in Argentina of the 88mph association, a global community that brings together “Back to the Future” fans from France, Spain, Japan, and other countries. This association allows us to connect with other fans and collaborators around the world and work together to contribute in the fight against Parkinson’s.
I am proud to be part of this global community that seeks to make a difference in the lives of people living with Parkinson’s. As Michael J. Fox said, “Hope is what allows us to move forward, even in the most difficult times.” That’s why we continue to work together to find a cure for Parkinson’s and improve the quality of life for those living with this condition.
Research and awareness about Parkinson’s are fundamental to finding a cure and improving the quality of life for those living with this condition. That’s why we invite all Back to the Future fans and the general community to join us in this fight.
In conclusion, the connection between “Back to the Future” and Parkinson’s disease is more than just a coincidence. It’s a story of hope and resilience in the face of adversity. Michael J. Fox’s battle against Parkinson’s is an inspiration to us all, and his work with the Michael J. Fox Foundation is a reminder that what we do when we care matters.
Join us on this mission and discover how you can help in the fight against Parkinson’s.
Thank you for reading …and caring!
