Quinton Didone: PD and Advocacy

An interview with Quinton Didone: PD and Advocacy on September 29, 2024.

Biography

I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and Dystonia in 2021 at the age 26. It brought me to my breaking point in 2022, but God intervened. He has since changed the way I look at Parkinson’s and my walk with disease.

Can you tell me more about your Advocacy?

Since I was young, I remember having symptoms that got swept under the rug from a random tremor to cramps that would last longer than usual. It was unknown to me or my family until my symptoms really started to get in the way of everyday life in 2018/2019. The worsening of symptoms leads to my diagnosis in 2021. August of 2022 that changed and the healing journey with God through Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ began.

What is your passion and how did you get involved in Parkinson’s awareness and hope for a cure?

Since August of 2022, I have advocated for a few different major Parkinson’s Groups as well as spreading awareness where I can along the way. As I continued, I was led to share my experience with Parkinson’s and Dystonia as a testimony along with sharing the Gospel with those I speak to.

What effect can your Advocacy have on an individual with Parkinson’s?
Advocacy can add to your community and support group. Whether you are being an inspiration or being inspired by others, it is a great environment for individuals with Parkinson’s Disease to be a part of.

What events do you participate in?

I have advocated for MMJF Foundation, Parkinson’s Foundation, and PDM Alliance.

In your opinion what is the key to effective advocacy?

An effective key to advocacy is having the passion, and drive to help better the Parkinson’s community whether that be through an individual effort or as a group. One person can help spread awareness throughout groups of people. The model comes from circles of talk and if you can reach one person from each circle of life and they spread awareness then it can make a difference across a state, country, or the world.

What other activities do you undertake to help improve and support your daily living Eg exercise and alternative remedies?

A few exercises helped me to get back moving again. Of course, getting the hang of walking and building up endurance. I have used Yoga to help build balance and elasticity in my muscles. Motorvation Foundation was a big help as well with their program for Parkinson’s Patients. Some herbal remedies and diet changes to better help my daily life. I haven’t taken normal Parkinson’s Medication since 2022, I switched to medical marijuana or CBD slowly lightening the dosage over time.

Why should people who don’t have Parkinson’s care about this?

Parkinson’s can affect many different areas of life and change the entire quality of it. It also can cause tension in relationships whether business, friendships, family, or dating. The best example I give people when asked how is to show them the Parkinson’s Iceberg.

Have you had any family members or relatives affected by Parkinson’s disease?

Currently I am the only one diagnosed with Parkinson’s in my family.
